The Monumenti Aperti 2024 event will be enriched by a series of exhibitions and special initiatives ranging from art history to historical memory, with a focus on symbolic places and contributions of great cultural value. In particular, special events will be held at the following cultural sites.
Sardinia Regional Council. Saturday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m. we will remember Linetta Serri, a valuable contributor to Monumenti Aperti who recently passed away, in the presence of President Giampietro Comandini.
Emilio Lussu Metropolitan Library (Monte Claro Park). On Saturday 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., it will be possible to visit the exhibition “Places of Madness: a route through the city of the insane,” which explores the history of Cagliari’s former asylum complexes. The route touches on Sant’Antonio Abate, San Giovanni di Dio Hospital and Villa Clara, with an analysis of the laws that regulated the treatment of mental distress, from the Giolitti Law of 1904 to the Basaglia Law of 1978. The exhibition is enhanced by documents from the Cagliari State Archives and J. Manca’s photographs of the old Villa Clara Psychiatric Hospital. Tours will be held starting every hour.
Saddi Grippo House. The Municipality of Pirri will host an exhibition of works created by the students of Liceo Artistico Musicale Foiso Fois, curated by Professor Giulia Baita. The exhibition will be open Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
La Vetreria Art and Culture Center. A group exhibition will be held at La Vetreria featuring the works of local artists, including Nicola Cioglia, Marina Madeddu, Antonello Marchesi, Roberto Unida and Luca Zedda. The exhibition will be open to visitors on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Pauli’s Cellars. Here, Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., a collection of reproductions of ceramic finds from various archaeological sites in the Cagliari metropolitan area, curated by the Claudio Pulli Foundation and ACUAS, will be on display. In addition, on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., there will be master classes on prehistoric “cardial” pottery by the Selargino Archaeological Group during the weekend.
State Railways Museum (Cagliari FS Station). On Sunday 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., it will be possible to admire a historic train displayed by the Sardinian Historic Trains Association, in cooperation with the State Railways Foundation. The display includes a diesel locomotive from the 1930s and several historic carriages.
Former State School “De Amicis” (Via Falzarego). Legambiente Cagliari, in collaboration with APM, will organize two mornings on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p. m. dedicated to the archaeological site of Tuvixeddu, with a photo exhibition and a guided tour of the area, to raise awareness of the site’s historical and scenic importance. The tours, lasting about an hour and a half, are open to groups of up to 60 people.
Siotto Palace. Finally, on Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m., the Silver White Ribbon Association will organize a lecture on the “Giuseppe Siotto” Research Foundation, by Anna Palmieri Lallai, who will tell the history of the Palace and its current activities in promoting the history of Sardinia.
