It is a very important agricultural center , for some time it has also become an interesting commercial area, as the presence of many activities distributed in different sectors can testify.

No one is able to say with absolute certainty what the origin of the name Senorbì is. Traditionally, the name Senorbì would come from “Sirboni,” in memory of the wild boars that, according to legend, populated the Senorbì area before human settlement. Another theory is the one proposed by archaeologist Giovanni Spano in the last century, who would have the name Senorbì derived from the Phoenician entry “Scen” or “scin,” which meant tooth or serrated mountain ridge. Various other names in Sardinia would derive from the same root: Seneghe, Senis, Senes, Sennariolo, Sennori, Sinnai, Sindia, Siniscola, Sinis and others. On the “toothed” hill would rise a nuraghe.

Another hypothesis about the origin of Senorbì’s name can be traced back to the Roman period: the name would derive from the Senoni Gauls, who would have founded the town and imposed their name on it, which in Latin would sound “Senonum urbs,” town of the Senoni. This remains a fanciful theory, because historian Giovanni Siotto Pintor states that there is no historical record that the Galli Senoni ever came to Sardinia, and consequently they could never have founded Senorbì and imposed their name on it.

There are still various theories, some even fascinating, about the origin of the name Senorbì, but among the many the most likely is the one that has the name derived from the Latin “Sinus arvalis” to be translated as “port of cultivated fields.” It would refer to the role played by the site, in Roman times, as a center for the collection of foodstuffs from the villages of Trexenta, to be sent to Cagliari and then to Rome. That is, there would have existed a kind of grain and cereal storage, organized by the government. The name Sinus arvalis, according to phonetic mutations frequent in the Latin of the lower empire, would have become Sinus arbalis, then Sinus arbilis, until the Senorbì of today.

Source: History of the Municipality – Municipality of Senorbì

"4_province":[],"8_province":[
[665,666,673

post-105555","comune","type-comune","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","comune_zone-italia-en","comune_zone-sardegna-en","comune_zone-sud-sardegna-en
["GET
