A picturesque and active center of Mount Acuto in northeastern Sardinia, it stands on the plateau of the same name at 690 meters above sea level. The center’s origin is definitely medieval, but until the early 20th century its historic center maintained the urban fabric of that time: cluttered and with narrow streets. What characterizes the architecture is Su Palattu, the multi-story buildings built with exposed or roughly squared granite ashlars. Rising in the second half of the 19th century, when Buddus\u00f2 had an expansion of its economic cycle, they are the homes of medium and large landowners. Common features are the portals in whose lintel are carved the year of construction and the owner’s initials. <\/p>\n\n
The landscape is characterized by stupendous forests surrounded by imposing granite reliefs. What most distinguishes these reliefs are the cavities formed during volcanic eruptions and as a result of erosion: they are commonly called “tafoni,” in Sardinian concheddas. Between the granite blocks cavities sometimes open up so large that the Nuragic people used them as burial grounds. <\/p>\n\n
