{"id":89319,"date":"2023-10-25T14:42:07","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T12:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/comuni\/ozieri\/"},"modified":"2025-04-08T14:16:36","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T12:16:36","slug":"ozieri","status":"publish","type":"comune","link":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/en\/comuni\/ozieri\/","title":{"rendered":"Ozieri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ozieri is one of the most important centers in northern Sardinia with 9,935 inhabitants and a territory of 273 km2.<br \/>\nThe territory has been populated since prehistoric times: the main Sardinian Neolithic culture known as the San Michele or Ozieri Culture took its name from the San Michele cave. There are numerous traces of the Nuragic period: nuraghi, sacred wells and tombs of the giants, and Roman ones such as the bridge over the Rio Mannu.<br \/>\nIn the late 1300s Ozieri assumed a dominant role in the territory as the capital of the incontrada of Monte Acuto. A thriving agricultural and livestock economy developed over the centuries, as early as Spanish rule. The center gained more and more importance in the political-administrative field: during the Sardinian-Piedmontese kingdom it became the seat of the bishopric, the court, provincial capital, royal depot for horse breeding, and Charles Albert elevated it to the rank of city (1836).<br \/>\nOzieri is a staple in the tradition for language protection: it is home to important Sardinian poetry and literature prizes.
