It is also called &#8220;church of the Congregation&#8221; because it is home to the Congregation of the Purity of the Blessed Virgin or Our Lady of Constantinople, which for centuries was the richest lay confraternity in the town. It in fact owned the Mount of Piety and managed a substantial part of the production and trade of Cerretan woolen cloth.
