The vicissitudes of \u201cLacuneddas Park\u201d are intertwined with the history of Villacidro and its characters, but also with literature, particularly the social environment of Norbio and the protagonists of the historical novel \u201cPaese d’Ombre\u201d by writer Giuseppe Dess\u00ec. Lacuneddas Park is the centuries-old tale, from the seventeenth century to the early 2000s, of a tancato of about three hectares, garden and forest together, now located between Brabetza and Bingiomigu streets, a short walk from the historic center. The history of this estate, which first belonged to the Mercedari friars, then to the lawyer Giuseppe Fulgheri and later to his heirs, including the writer Giuseppe Dess\u00ec \u201cs maternal grandparents, Giuseppe Pinna Curreli and Elisa Dess\u00ec Fulgheri, is intertwined with the vicissitudes of other villacidresi families, such as that of the Cadoni, the Serra, the Murgia, and the Costa families, as well as family units from other Sardinian municipalities and the peninsula, such as the Alagna families of Cagliari and Santoni of Villa Basilica in the province of Lucca. Some of these characters, such as Fulgheri and Pinna Curreli, are the protagonists of Dess\u00ec\u201d s Paese d’Ombre, but also of his other novels, also set in Villacidro. <\/p>\n\n
The Park, an authentic green lung within the built-up area, presents landscape peculiarities, with its flora and fauna, the recently restored Sardinian Art Nouveau Alagna house, and the particular as well as unprecedented hydraulic system of irrigation formed by terracotta canals for the transport of water connected to several cisterns and wells placed on the same line, in the upper part of the farm.
