Erected in a barycentric position within the historic center, it is considered the town&#8217;s most representative house of worship. The building has no documentary sources, regarding the chronology of its foundation, but it can presumably be framed between 1651 and 1654. The choice of the foundation site is closely linked to historical facts dating from 1651-55 and 1681, when the inhabitants of Gueymajori, who were settled at the Romanesque church of St. Peter (12th cent.), were struck by a plague epidemic. Once the disease ceased, the surviving population built the church as a vow to the martyr Sebastian, a saint to whom they addressed their prayers of penance. Under these circumstances originated the present town of Guamaggiore that arose around what soon took the title of the parish church. The exterior of the building proposes a main elevation marked by a simple tripartite fa\u00e7ade, to which a square-plan bell tower is attached on the left side. The facade plan, characterized by a classicist style, is enriched by simple decorations, such as cornices and panels. The interior set on a vast rectangular plan, houses five chapels dedicated respectively to St. Francis, Our Lady of the Rosary, the Baptistery, the Immaculate Conception and the Heart of Jesus. The church preserves valuable furnishings made of marble and wood, many of which can be attributed to the early construction, such as the stone washbasin in the sacristy, which bears an inscription dated 1678. In the chancel is a pendulous carved sandstone gemstone, also referable to the early installation.
