Mango boasts ancient origins; it was a military settlement in Roman times. The Middle Ages saw it as a small but vital protagonist of vicissitudes motivated by its strategic location: the ancient Magistra Langarum road leading from the hills to the sea departed from here. The name &#8220;Mango&#8221; comes from the word &#8220;mangle,&#8221; an ancient weapon of war, used for throwing stones. Frave, Vene, and Vaglio were the three villages with castles that gave birth to the town of Mango in the late 1200s. The Asti army had annihilated them during a war against Alba. The inhabitants of the three villages came together and gave birth to the village of Mango.
