{"id":89032,"date":"2023-12-19T11:49:27","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T09:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/monumenti\/luigi-piloni-collection\/"},"modified":"2025-05-13T09:30:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T07:30:32","slug":"luigi-piloni-collection","status":"publish","type":"monumento","link":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/en\/monumenti\/luigi-piloni-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Piloni Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The collection, which includes more than nine hundred objects, constitutes a rich collection of Sardinian works of art and craftsmanship, brought together over long years of <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research by Luigi Piloni, a man of culture and passionate researcher, who donated it to the University of Cagliari in 1980. <\/span>The collection has enriched the university&#8217;s heritage, fostering the maturation and growth of civic sentiment for the abundance, variety and artistic value of the artifacts linked to the memory of our Island. It is divided into five sections comprising <em>paintings<\/em>, including canvases by Stampacino painter Antioco Mainas, Giovanni Marghinotti, and leading early 20th century Sardinian artists Felice Melis-Marini, Carlo Contini, Filippo Figari, Mauro Manca, and Giuseppe Biasi.  Also of note are Philippine Della Marmora&#8217;s fine and delicate 19th-century ethnographic documentary tempera paintings. The section on <em>maps<\/em> <em>and city plans <\/em>is a fundamental contribution to studies of cartography in Sardinia. There are figurations of Sardinia that have come from the classical world, nautical charts, some of the maps made by Alberto Della Marmora, and the original map of dialects by Canon Giovanni Spano. Of particular note is the well-known view of Sigismondo Arquer, where, thanks to the frontal view of the city of Cagliari, the defensive stone walls, which over the centuries have been demolished or incorporated into other architecture, are highlighted. The section of <em>prints, drawings, watercolors, and tempera <\/em>paintings houses a composite and numerous collection of objects of different types: effigies of historical figures, Sardinian costumes, religious iconography, and views of Sardinia.
