Nestled in the setting of a centuries-old olive grove is the archaeological area of Santa Barbara, a site of inestimable value that displays multiple vestiges of Sardinia’s thousand-year history. The earliest evidence of human presence in the Bauladu area belongs to the Domus de Janas carved at the Santa Barbara site: a funerary monument dating back to the Ozieri Culture that spread during the Neolithic period. On the top of the basaltic hill, overlooking westward the Campidano of Oristano, is the complex nuraghe of Santa Barbara, of which the central tower and the remains of two other towers are currently visible. In the area below the polylobate structure, it is possible to admire the early Iron Age village in which one of the most important metallurgical activities in central Sardinia is attested. The area boasts<\/span> uninterrupted occupation until the Late Middle Ages.<\/span><\/p>\n
