A short distance from Orr\u00ec beach, in the locality of San Salvatore, lies a vast archaeological complex. Sporadic but significant evidence of the pre-Nuragic age and more substantial traces of the Nuragic period can be found in the area. A domus de janas, perhaps part of a vast necropolis, can be traced to the Recent Neolithic (between 3300 – 2500 B.C.). A number of menhirs are also found, two of which are still intact at the nearby Tomb of the Giants; remnants of probable megalithic circle, moreover, may attest to a frequentation of the site in the earlier Copper Age, at the time of the so-called Monte Claro culture (2000 – 1800 bc). The monumental ensemble includes nuraghe of the tholos type, a village of huts and a tomb of giants. A small treasure of sixteen bronze axes with raised edges was found during recent excavations, confirming the richness and centrality of the site within the production dynamics of the area.<\/p>\n
