In the past it was also the residence of monks from Montecassino. Entirely of white limestone interspersed with black trachyte, the church has a southeast-facing apse and apsidal space along the northern flank, a single cross-vaulted nave supported by pointed arches, and an architraved portal with a discharge arch. The highlight of the exterior facade is an anthropomorphic sculpture, the shape of which is not easily interpreted, but is supposed to represent a pre-Christian deity. The church underwent restoration in 1971.
