Its commissioning was aimed at underground cultivation of Brassey lode, discovered during his presidency in the Gennamari and Ingurtosu Society by Lord Thomas Allnutt Brassey. This lode is a continuation of the Montevecchio lode cultivated in the eponymous mines and with its extension of 8 km represented the most important metallo-genic lode manifestation in Sardinia.
