Nestled in Sassari’s public gardens, the pavilion was opened in 1956 as the headquarters of the Istituto Sardo Organizzazione Lavoro Artigianale (ISOLA). It hosted the first exhibitions of artifacts curated by Tavolara, which made him world famous. The complex was later intended to house the museum of craftsmanship and design, with Tavolara’s largest “public” collection of works and those acquired by ISOLA over the course of six decades, consisting of admirable ceramic specimens, as well as baskets, jewelry, textiles and other local productions of incredible workmanship.<\/p>\n
The building has two floors. The current look, after redevelopment work completed in 2013, conceived by Badas, was born to enhance the sense of continuity between interior and exterior. A staircase with reliefs of the Sardinian Cavalcade of Tavolara leads to the unique space on the upper floor. Outside, a long wall accompanies the visitor through a ” water path” into the pool, while in the center one can admire a fountain embellished with colored ceramic reliefs, the work of Giuseppe Silecchia.<\/p>\n
There are also rooms dedicated to exhibitions, workshops, the terrace, the access ramp tunnel, the Shops hall, and the red wooden ceiling dotted with lights reminiscent of a starry sky.
