{"id":92754,"date":"2024-03-20T16:45:18","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T14:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/monumenti\/st-george-martyr-parish\/"},"modified":"2024-09-10T09:52:02","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T07:52:02","slug":"st-george-martyr-parish","status":"publish","type":"monumento","link":"https:\/\/monumentiaperti.com\/it\/en\/monumenti\/st-george-martyr-parish\/","title":{"rendered":"St. George Martyr Parish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Initially dedicated to St. Catherine, the church was built in its first layout by the Genoese around 1200; it was later enlarged and made a parish church in place of the previous church of St. George (to this day a ruin) to accommodate the growing number of worshippers. Reconstruction work was completed in 1774 with the placement of the valuable polychrome marbles by Giovanni Battista Franco of Como, Andrea Spazzi.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The interior of the church has six side chapels facing a single barrel-vaulted nave; the high altar is surmounted by an imposing octagonal dome.
