The remaining church was renovated and enlarged thanks to the legacies of devotees. The Spanish-style church has a Latin cross plan and is surrounded by a large courtyard and enclosed by a wall. In ancient times, however, the church was surrounded by loggias called &#8220;Cumbessias.&#8221; The latter were used as shelter for the many pilgrims and housed a thriving market. The church houses a precious Baroque-style wooden altar plated with pure gold inside.
