State Archives

The Nuoro State Archives was established as a section by Ministerial Decree April 15, 1959, and became State Archives by Presidential Decree no. 1409/1963, with the task of collecting the historical records of all state offices in the province, relating to affairs that have been exhausted for more than forty years.

It keeps a documentary heritage of about twelve thousand items, divided into funds, the most important of which are: Notarial Deeds, Prefecture, Ceased Land Registry, Court, Magistrate’s Court, Police Headquarters, to which are added private donations of documents and books.

The presence of a rich specialized library with publications related to Sardinian history and in particular to the discipline of archival, paleographic and diplomatic studies is noted.

Within the bibliographic holdings is the interesting gift of the library of Dr. Carlo Pinna of Thiesi, which contains about 1,500 titles.
