The Serramanna War Memorial was inaugurated in 1922 to commemorate the soldiers of Serramanna who fell in World War I with a solemn ceremony in the presence of both civil and religious authorities and with a very large participation of the citizenry. The work is a Doric column of dolomitic limestone from Gonnesa, made by Giuseppe Maria Sartorio (1854-1922), a nationally renowned sculptor who was very active in Sardinia at that time. At the base of the recently restored Monument are all the names of Serramannese who fell or were missing in the Wars of Independence for the Unification of Italy and in the World Wars. Every November 4, celebrations of National Unity Day, Armed Forces Day and the commemoration of the fallen soldiers of all wars with the laying of a laurel wreath at the foot of the Monument take place in the vicinity of the Sartorius work.
