Central Theater

Construction work on the “Cine-theater” began on November 8, 1937 and was completed on November 20, 1938. It has been in regular operation since January 1, 1939. The building, with an estimated size of 17 x 32 m, is volumetrically designed as a compact block. The main façade is designed by a series of large round-arched openings near the foyer for access to the theater and by regular holes corresponding to the service rooms, emphasized by red trachyte cornices; moreover, unlike the other buildings around the plaza, it does not have detachments in the formal treatment of the basement portion, but rather a continuous plastered surface extended over the entire surface of the building. Noteworthy are the travertine cornices on the main façade intended for the posting of posters for shows scheduled in the structure. Recently renovated and returned to the city, the Central Theater hosts plays, concerts, performances and events. Bibliography: IACP Archives docc. n. 1, 111; OND Archives.
