Church of St. Mary of Palmas

The church is located on the site where the village of Old Palmas, now a ghost town, stood until the 1960s.
According to some historians, it is a Romanesque church from the year 1000 that rests its foundations on the remains of a pre-existing building.
Although the lack of historical data does not allow us to fix with certainty the year of its construction, we can assume a date between 1000 and 1016.
Architecturally, the church is the result of a series of restorations and remodeling over the centuries.
The building experienced a period of severe decay in the second half of the 20th century, due to the relocation of the settlement to another site, to the point that it became a shelter for flocks and a fodder store.
In 1996, with a restoration project, the church was reopened to the faithful and returned to what it should have looked like originally.
