Built between 1873 and 1878, on area rendered free of charge by the Municipality to the Provincial Deputation of Sassari for the erection of “RR.CC Barracks. on horseback“; the plot area (of 1,500 m2 approx.) at the time was on the outskirts of the town and located between the “via Lìttu” and “s’abbadòrzu” of via Nazionale Castelsardo/Ozieri.”
Two building bodies: one for offices, living quarters, services, isolation cells; the other for stables. Equipped with an inner courtyard with a cistern, another was located in front of the main entrance. Two driveway entrances.
In the late 1960s, an upper floor (half of the main body) was added for the Station Commanders’ quarters. Later, in the 1990s (following the relocation of the Headquarters to the new premises), paperwork was initiated to restore the old 19th-century structures, and in October 2023 the inauguration took place with a new intended use: “Ciriaco Carru Cultural Center.”
