“Giorgio Asproni” Elementary School

Dating back to the early 1900s, it was built on a shale ridge and buttress that formed the end point of Via Cavour. To build the school, the Municipal Administration of the time and Mayor Patrizio Piras expropriated, for a fee, the hovels that stood nearby and took out a loan of 100,000 liras from the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The project was carried out by Eng. Sanna Manunta, dated April 23, 1904. The work was entrusted to the firm Sirigu Giuseppe, while the construction director was Engineer Carta. The final occupation of the school took place on December 4, 1919. Even today it still makes a fine show of both style and detail. An exhibition set up in collaboration of the school’s pupils can be visited at the institute.
