The buildings in the center feature striking loggias or altanas (sutteas), terraces covered and supported by pillars or softened by neoclassical columns, which especially embellish the 19th-century palaces, but whose origins are certainly older. Notable examples include the Tola Foundation men’s orphanage, Pietri Palace, Mannu Palace, Vigliaroni Palace, and the home of Juan Tola Ladu.
