Set up in the premises of the Montegranatico is the underwater archaeology exhibition that presents the results of underwater archaeological investigations carried out in the coastal localities of Pistis and Is Arenas S’acqua and S’ollastu by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici for the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano.
A short distance from the beautiful sandy shoreline, three distinct submerged archaeological contexts have been found, two from the Roman period, dating back to the 2nd century B.C. and 2nd century A.D., respectively.
Of considerable interest is the third context, a Spanish ship from the late 17th century. The nine iron cannons discovered in 2005 a short distance from the shore made it possible, thanks to the 2009 excavations, to identify various shipboard materials and some silver royals dating back to ruler Charles II; some of the coins were minted in Mexico.
Stories of men and the sea, of trades and bottles, which through the underwater exhibition and the show return additional and important elements of interest to the charming Marina of Arbus.
