The Zilvara sewer, located in the municipality of Badesi, is under the jurisdiction of the Sassari Civil Engineering Service and the Olbia-Tempio Civil Engineering Service: it is a series of second-category hydraulic works inherent in the Coghinas River and its tributaries. In particular, the Comprensorio della Bassa Valle del Coghinas, part of the Consorzio di Bonifica del Nord Sardegna, has a network of field drainage canals on the left and right sides of the river. Said canals flow into two main outfalls that feed the waters into the Coghinas River through two artifacts: the Zilvara sewer on the right (Municipality of Badesi) and the La Foce sewer on the left (Municipality of Valledoria), both of which were built several decades ago by the Sassari Civil Engineer. Both of the aforementioned manholes are equipped with 4 sluice gates, which are closed in case of a rise in the water level of the river itself, to prevent the overflow of the aforementioned drainage channels by pumping downstream of the manhole artifact. The Zilvara sluice needed major extraordinary maintenance works to restore the full functionality of the system, taking into account that three out of four sluice gates turned out to be blocked, and moreover, as verified during the flood events of 02/03/2011, these sluice gates did not guarantee tightness, allowing the return towards the channel of part of the water that was pumped into the Coghinas.
