Teti

The village of Teti lies at an altitude of 714 m. on the northern slope of the granitic ‘P.ta Sa Marghine’ (952 m. above sea level) and enjoys a wide panorama to the north where its territory gradually declines and then climbs again on the distinct granite mass of M.te ‘Su Ballu’ and the rounded shapes of ‘S’Enna sa Taula’ and ‘Su Linarbu’. The granitic peaks of ‘ Marghine di Ollolai ‘ and ‘P.ta Pitzuri’ also frame the beautiful artificial lake of ‘Cucchinadorza’, created in the ′60s by the damming of Rio Taloro and Rio Tino and other small tributaries.

Its territory covers 43.91 sq. km. encompassing various elevation ranges from 157 up to 952 m. asl. The climate is predominantly inland hilly.

From the summit of ‘ P.ta Sa Marghine’ the horizon sweeps 360° with views ranging from the Marghine/Goceano chain in the north to the extreme northern border where, on clear days, the granite ridge of ‘M.te Limbara’ in Gallura is visible while, a few tens of kilometers away, in an east-southeast direction the highest peaks of the western side of the Gennargentu massif rise from a thick blanket of forest.

The origins of the town of Teti are lost among history and legend and there is no certainty, however, according to the most accepted theory its name seems to derive from the plant ‘ Smilax aspera ‘, from the vernacular name of su ‘Titione’, which grows luxuriantly throughout the territory.

In Teti, because of its history, its notoriety and the findings of large quantities of lithic, ceramic and especially bronze materials of inestimable value, a small Museo Archeologico Comprensoriale has sprung up, inaugurated in 1990, where part of the finds recovered in the excavation campaigns carried out in the 1980s/90s in the two nuragic villages in the territory, Abini and s’Urbale, are preserved.
Recently, to enrich the collections already present, some copies of the most famous bronzes from the Abini site and exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Cagliari have been added.
