Pimentel

Pimentel is an Italian municipality of 1 082 inhabitants in the province of South Sardinia, in the subregion of Trexenta.

The area was inhabited as early as pre-Nuragic and Nuragic times, due to the presence of some archaeological evidence in the area.

During the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Cagliari. In 1258, when the giudicato fell, the territory passed briefly to the giudicato of Arborea. The territories of the former giudicato of Cagliari were then bequeathed to the republic of Pisa, a fief of the Visconti family. In 1324 the town passed to the Aragonese. In 1497 the town was united to the county of Villasor. In 1594 the county was transformed into a marquisate.

From 1936 to 1946 it was merged with the neighboring municipality of Samatzai.
