Turin is an Italian municipality of 853 488 inhabitants, capital of the Piedmont region and metropolitan city of the same name. It was the first capital of Italy at unification in 1861.
Turin is Italy’s fourth largest municipality by population and the country’s third largest economic-productive complex and is one of Italy’s major university, artistic, tourist, scientific, gastronomic and cultural centers. Its territory is also home to areas and buildings included in two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: some palaces and areas that are part of the circuit of Savoy residences in Piedmont (World Heritage Site) and the area of the Po Hills (biosphere reserve).
Hometown of some of the greatest symbols of Made in Italy in the world, including vermouth, giandujotti, grissini and espresso coffee.
Turin has been the hub of Italy’s automotive industry as well as an important center of publishing, banking and insurance, information technology, cinema, food and wine, aerospace, industrial design, sports, fashion and artificial intelligence.
It was awarded the title of World Book Capital in 2006 and European Capital of Sports in 2015.
