The Municipal Library of Quartu Sant’Elena officially reopens to the public after a comprehensive redevelopment. The goal of the redevelopment was to transform the library into an accessible, inclusive and sustainable cultural hub, according to the principles of Universal Design, through the elimination of physical, sensory and cognitive barriers.
The project realized:
- Full physical accessibility to all indoor and outdoor spaces;
- Improvement of sensory and cognitive accessibility;
- Creation of socializing areas and inclusive spaces for all ages;
- Digital and multimedia adaptation with a view to accessibility.
The inaugural event, spread over three days and in synergy with “Monumenti Aperti,” intends:
- Celebrating the result of the PNRR project;
- Strengthening the dialogue between culture, inclusion and citizenship;
- Promoting the value of accessibility as a right and opportunity for the whole community.
On the occasion of the opening of the Quartu Sant’Elena Municipal Library, a number of events are planned, divided among the three days.
On Friday, May 9, play and entertainment activities aimed at children and young people will be held from 4 pm.
On Saturday, May 10, an opening press conference will be held at 11 a.m. followed by amusical performance by the duo Caterina Melis and Fabio Secci from 12:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., a multi-ethnic and multicultural lunch will be offered by the Arcoiris ODV Association. In the afternoon, a panel discussion entitled “The Culture of Inclusion” will be held from 3:30 pm. This will be followed by a convivial time to facilitate networking among participants, and at 7:30 p.m. an evening concert by the bands Musalibre and Red Hot Sauce, with accessibility guaranteed for different types of audiences.
On Sunday, May 11, atraining activity entitled “Libraries don’t change, librarians change” by librarian Pasquale Mascia will be held from 9:30 a.m.
During the two days of Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., in addition, visitors will be able to enjoy, as part of the Monumenti Aperti event, guided tours by the students of the Liceo Classico, Linguistico and delle Scienze Umane “B. R. Motzo” high school in Quartu Sant’Elena.
