The origins of the Palazzo della Baronia date back to the 15th century, when King Ferdinand I of Aragon granted the fiefdom of Mariotto to the nobles Paolo and Mariotto Verità, authorizing them to build a fortified tower-house. The built-up area of Mariotto developed around it.
The building, also known as “Palazzo del Barese,” has maintained its residential function over time while undergoing extensions and adaptations. The local stone structure presents a courtyard layout with an arched portal, embrasures and cantonments that recall its defensive function.
The inner courtyard, with a well and service rooms, retains its original domestic character. Restoration work has respected the historical identity, preserving the palace as a symbol of the village’s feudal past.
