Arbus

The municipality of Arbus is one of the largest in Sardinia, occupying in fact 269.34 sq. km. in the southwestern sector of the island. The landscape is dominated by Mount Arcuentu at 785 m., whose silhouette stands out among the wildly shaped volcanic ridges. Arbus is surrounded by the mining areas of Gennamari, Montevecchio and Ingurtosu. The 47-km-long Arbus Coast has its peculiarity in the wide expanses of sand forming dunes of imposing size in which typical Mediterranean vegetation is present. From the north, coastal villages are encountered: Pistis, Borgata di Sant’Antonio di Santadi, Torre dei Corsari and Porto Palma. It then continues with Funtanazza, Gutturu’e Flumini, Portu Maga, the coast of Piscinas (about 9 km long and with a dune complex of about 3 sq. km and heights up to 50 m.), Scivu and Capo Pecora. The area also offers several archaeological sites of various kinds (human traces from the Neolithic period, Nuraghi, Tombs of the Giants, and traces of the Carthaginians and Romans)
