The historical headquarters of the “Filippo Figari” State Institute of Art is located in Piazza d’Armi in what Enrico Costa said was a plot of land designated for Campo di Marte, or military exercises. The building, which was originally owned by the Dau Limited Company and was to be used as a shoe factory, in fact changed its use immediately and in 1923 was turned into the Royal Apprenticeship School for the Building and Factory Arts. The Regia Scuola experienced a decisive turning point in 1935 under the leadership and direction of painter Prof. Filippo Figari, who oversaw its rebirth and elevation to Royal Art Institute for Sardinia on October 1, 1940. The mansion has a beautiful ribbed portal and windows with partly squared Art Deco profiling, essential and elegant, with decorative motifs consisting on the main floor of folders with festoons of fruit.
