Center of Peasant Culture

Villa Muscas, which houses the Center of Peasant Culture, is home to a rich museum and rooms used for meetings and conferences; it was built in different periods with different construction techniques, on a layout with a clear monastic imprint. The facility stands as a center for the preservation of objects and machinery related to the Sardinian rural world, for dissemination through events that aim to involve people in a path of knowledge of issues related to agricultural production. The museum tour is divided into three levels: courtyard, cloister, second floor rooms. The Villa Muscas, during the period of World War II played an important military role, sheltering wounded and storing gas masks, ammunition and uniforms, and as a guesthouse. The school and its educational and administrative infrastructure were moved to Nurri between 1941 and 1945; the military engineer moved into the vacated premises with the aforementioned functions. In the school, a valuable bas-relief by Tilocca commemorates students who fell in the war. Still, one can see along that side of the structure, bullet holes (those that survived the renovation of the facade) from the fractionation carried out in 1943, in reconnaissance of both the aforementioned military depot and, later, the Monserrato airport.
