The municipality of Nuxis is located at the foot of Mount Tamara, which exceeds an altitude of eight hundred meters with a population of just over one thousand five hundred. From the historical point of view, there is evidence starting from the Neolithic period, found mainly in some tombs (domus de Janas) excavated on volcanic rocks and some caves. The Copper and Bronze Ages are found on both caves and megalithic monuments (nuraghi and sacred well of Tattinu). In addition to Roman records there is a medieval church dedicated to St. Elijah the Prophet. In the town there is the church of St. Peter the Apostle built in the second half of the 1,800s. The largely mountainous terrain is covered by stupendous forests predominantly of holm oak and is rich in water sources and has varied morphologies also determined by geological diversity.
