Chamber of Commerce

The headquarters of the Cagliari Chamber of Commerce was inaugurated in 1928 under the name Palazzo dell’Economia and is the work of Milanese architect Luca Beltrami, who was entrusted with the study of the elevation. The palace has on the upper frame four large cups or amphorae arranged in pairs at the ends, encapsulating a strong symbolic charge. The interiors are the exclusive work of Eng. Riccardo Simonetti, who, in addition to taking care of the purely technical aspects and the design of the elegant staircase with its refined wrought-iron railing, has the great merit of having wisely enhanced and directed the choices of the Chamber Body so that they were an expression of refined taste. The building has four floors, one of which is underground. On the ground floor, a large hall, decorated by Felice Melis Marini and enriched by three mottos chosen by Liborio Azzolina, currently houses most of the services rendered by the Authority to users but was originally designed to house the much-desired Commercial Museum and was used as an exhibition venue for the best local productions and as a place for discussion – debate on local development prospects. The upper floors revolve around a patio. On the second floor, the Salone delle Riunioni is decorated with two large canvases by Filippo Figari commissioned by the Chamber with the intention of recalling the great medieval splendor when, in the age of the Commons, merchant guilds and guilds of arts and crafts had spread across the peninsula, considered by many scholars to be the commercial representations of which the Chambers are an evolution. Very interesting is the collection of portraits of presidents with works by Guglielmo Bilancioni, Dino Fantini, Enzo Loy and Vladimir Lipec Aronovich. In Palazzo is furnished with furniture of historical-artistic interest and is enriched by works of art signed by the greatest artists of the Sardinian twentieth century: Francesco Ciusa, Stanis Dessy, Costantino Nivola, Giovanni Ciusa Romagna, Giovanni Battista Rossino and Cesare Cabras.
