Roman Telti

Although there are no visible traces of this period Telti had an important development during the years of Roman rule. Terti, this is the name given to the settlement at that time, arose at the crossroads of the Roman road that led from Karales to Olbia, to Gemelle (Tempio) and from there to Portus Tibula (Santa Teresa Gallura or Castelsardo).
The center’s role was not limited to a place of passage; it is assumed to be of some importance under the civilian aspect, given the discovery of remains of habitation-type structures.
Some rooms with mosaic floors have been recognized, which can be interpreted as “thermal buildings”; and numerous structures of a funerary type discovered in the “Donna Muscas” area , in today’s urban center.
Also from this area come column ruins, mosaic tiles and portions of mosaics, coins from the high and low empire (from Trajan to Maximianus) and funerary inscriptions.
Traces of Roman-era settlements are documented in scattered areas of the municipality’s territory.
A short distance from the Nuraghe Lu Naracu-Putzolu is the reported presence of the Roman road that led from Cagliari to Olbia of which traces of paving stones are visible; the route of the ancient road was confirmed by the discovery, along the route of the present road system, of numerous milestones that can be placed chronologically for the most part between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD, about 30-one of the largest collections in all of Sardinia-which, placed at regular intervals, marked the distance in miles from one place to another, bearing the name of the emperor under whose reign the milestone was placed, and of the governor who promoted the work.
