It is probably the remains of the ancient medieval fortress placed to defend an area exposed to frequent attacks by the Barbarians.
Alberto della Marmora in his 1860 “Itinerario dell’Isola di Sardegna” also refers to the military building.
The fortress, as Francesco Floris recounts in “The Great Encyclopedia of Sardinia,” was built in the 11th century by the judges of Cagliari to protect the ancient village of Palmas de Sols, where the inhabitants of Sulci had taken refuge.
In 1323, when the Aragonese landed, the castle was also invested by troops, conquered and severely damaged.
The manor, conquered by a garrison of royal troops, fell into decline and by the end of the century was in ruins.
At present the fortress, reduced to the state of ruins, retains a few sections of the surrounding wall.
