The villa, built between 1915 and 1919 by Gerolamo and Oddone Devoto, commercial entrepreneurs, became the property of the Region of Sardinia in 1955 and currently houses the offices of the Presidency and the Sala Giunta recently named after Emilio Lussu. Autonomy Park, covering about 17,000 square meters, has some very interesting aspects, especially since it still retains the elegant lines of the initial design, dating back to the 1920s. On a technical level, the park is distinguished by some pleasing originality: first and foremost is the use of terebinth, of which there are some beautiful specimens of arboreal bearing. This species is absent from any other garden or park in Sardinia. Also of interest are Cussonia spicata, the South African fruiting Aberia caffra, both unique specimens, and the fruiting Ficus pumila. Also noteworthy are the presence of a few specimens of Casuarina stricta, Genista monosperma and that of an imposing subject of Sterculia diversifolia that for longevity could rival a similar specimen planted in the Embankment. Relevant on the scenic level are the slender silhouettes of Washingtonia robusta, the evergreen Pinus Canariensis and the beautiful dwarf palm complex at the secondary entrance on Merello Avenue.
