The Seminary building is so called because in the 19th century it was the seat of the episcopal seminary. The building was built at the behest of Bishop Serafino Carchero, the first bishop of the diocese of Tortolì, between 1827 and 1830. Opened in 1831, it was closed as early as 1834 due to serious financial difficulties, but reopened in 1840. In 1882 it became the seat of the gymnasium schools and finally ceased its activities in 1926. For a long period it was one of the most important cultural centers in Ogliastra, also equipped with a rich library. After a period of closure, the seminary reopened to house evacuees from the 1951 flood. In 1960, the building housed first elementary and then vocational schools. In the 1970s, a gas cylinder explosion compromised the rear of the building. In the 1970s and 1980s, the building housed a detached section of the “Cristoforo Mameli” classical high school. After a long period of neglect, in 1991, the municipality purchased and restored the building, which now houses the Emilio and Joyce Lussu Municipal Library.
