After soaking the dough became soft and tractable, then it was extracted and worked with feet or an iron rod to make it uniform and compact. It was cut into thicker or thinner slices depending on the programs, and put into tile or brick moulds according to the demand. The material was arranged in layers in the kiln, where the fire had to be initially slow until it reached temperatures above 100°C. It was lit at night, around 10 p.m., and extinguished in the morning, at about 12 noon. One thousand tiles cost 5 liras.
