Domus de janas of Su Crucifissu Mannu

The Porto Torres area has a long history of human settlement, dating back to the Neolithic period, with villages, sanctuaries and burial caves such as domus de janas. On Crucifissu Mannu is a vast prehistoric necropolis with twenty-two hypogeic burials dated to about six thousand years ago. Idols of the Mother Goddess, drilled skulls and depictions of horns and taurine protomes, possibly symbols of male deities related to reproduction, were discovered during excavations.
