De Amicis Elementary School

The school is named after the famous writer Edmondo De Amicis, author of the novel “Cuore.” It is the oldest school building in the city, the only one until 1954. The property occupies the block between Azuni Street, Eleonora d’Arborea Street, Carducci Street and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. The history of the institute began in 1907 when the then Mayor Salvatore Masala, noting the shortage of school premises as a result of the increase in population, asked the City Council to deliberate on the construction of a new schoolhouse.
