The vitality of the nearby church named after St. Basil is probably to be traced to the reason for the post-medieval construction of the mill, which served mainly for irrigating the fields and watering the animals belonging to the church.
Oral sources in the village narrate that this mill was used no to the early 1900s as an animal-drawn mill. It is said that the water was drawn by means of a wooden wheel (the noria) around which stood a rope made of woven myrtle or oleaster branches; earthenware vessels (is tuvus) were tied to the rope, and a blindfolded donkey turned the wheel so that the vessels tied to the rope descended into one of the two mouths of the well and rose again, filled with water, from the other mouth. The water was then piped into the various tubs, in some of which the cattle were watered. From the large basins the water then flowed into the small side basins that were used for washing cloth. However, the fact that there was a gora “Su Mulinu” (reported in ancient cadastral maps) in the vicinity leads one to think that the water was diverted by a stream to reach the mill. It is therefore plausible that this mill, at least initially, was of the hydraulic type and that it was later modified into a mola asinaria, as was the case especially in the Campidano no to the mid-1900s.
