Built in the 18th century, the church features architectural elements of late Renaissance taste, visible especially in the elegant portal. The single-nave interior is covered by a barrel vault. A transverse arch set on pilasters divides the vault into two bays, separating the presbytery area from the single nave. The church stands in an area that was formerly used as a cemetery, so much so that it is remembered as the ancient church of the fossar, a Catalan term by which the cemetery was referred to. The church is also known as S. Ana de dins, to distinguish it from the country church of the same name, located on the outskirts of Alghero, namely S. Ana de fores. Currently the little church is no longer accessible to the public. In the fairly recent past it was opened on July 26 to celebrate the feast of St. Anne and on Holy Wednesday to keep the simulacrum of the Santcristus de la Misericordia, which on Good Friday was placed on the high altar for the Desclavament.
