Tomé House

Located at the confluence of Azuni Square and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Casa Tomè stands on four floors. On the ground floor is the centered portal, framed by two Ionic pilasters and a projecting molded cornice; this is followed by the first floor, free of any decoration. The second and third floors are joined by a horizontal ashlar banded facing, punctuated in four mirrors by five equally ashlar pilasters, with four balconies with wrought iron railings on the second floor and as many balconies with elaborate iron railings on the top floor. The second floor is occupied entirely by the large master apartment, with a parade wing consisting of gallery, study and reception room. Restoration has restored the interior to its period colors and stucco decorations, creating a ” Belle Epoque” atmosphere. The property in the second half of the 19th century belonged to Baron Cesare Giordano Apostoli (Sassari 1832 – Civitavecchia 1920) and then to his brother Andrea Giordano Apostoli (Sassari 1833 – Venice 1924). In the mid-1920s it was purchased by Commendator Giuseppe Tomè (Sassari 1890 – Bogliasco 1966), a merchant and art collector, who upon his death named the Municipality of Sassari as his heir. Today it is home to the newly established Sassari Civic School of Music.
