Palazzo Giordani is home to the Law Department of the University of Ferrara along with Palazzo Trotti Mosti, which faces it. Erected in the last decade of the 15th century for Battista Guarini, it was designed by architect Alessandro Biondo, a helper and first “mason” of Biagio Rossetti. The complex was very large and included a garden that extended to the Charterhouse. Between 1838 and 1868 the palace passed from the Gualengo to the Luzzato and Baratelli families until it came to the Marquis Giordani. The latter demolished much of the building, which was in poor condition. In the early 20th century, Francesco Giordani had the Art Nouveau decorations made, which are still the most interesting in the palace. In the garden, the site of a Roman villa found during some excavations was recovered, leaving low walls to delimit the ancient rooms.
