The Diocesan Historical Archives today collects the two historical fonds of the Capitular Archives and the Episcopal Curia of the ancient Diocese of Alghero, which was established by the will of Julius II, who in 1503 ordered the transfer to Alghero of the See of Ottana and the simultaneous union with it of the Sees of Castro and Bisarcio. Few but valuable documents came from these locations; the Constitutiones of Castro (1420), the Constitutiones of Bisarcio (1435) and the Constitutiones of Ottana (1475). In their five centuries of existence, the two archives have amassed a prestigious record. We recall the three volumes of Noticias Antiguas, well known to all historians, a full-bodied series of Pastoral Visitations, numerous volumes of Auctos, and the collection of no less than six manuscript synods, three pre-Tridentine and three post-Tridentine.
