Named after the illustrious Iglesiente native Nicolo Canelles, the Municipal Library has a very curious history. Initially a place of worship dedicated to St. Sebastian, protector of plague victims, it is mentioned in a notarial deed from the 1500s. It also became the site of several burials, including that of pizzicagnolo Giovanni Battista Faedda, the only documented capital execution in Iglesias.
It was finally used for its present function by Municipal Resolution in 1867 and to this day accompanies generations of children, youth and adults.
