Oasis SIC Texile

The “Texile” is a natural monument located in the territory of Aritzo, from which it is about two kilometers away. It represents one of the best-known “heels” in Sardinia with its maximum elevation of 975 meters above sea level.

The heel structure has a width of 50 to 70 meters, and a relative height of about 24 meters, with vertical sheer walls.

The shape of this natural monument is easily identifiable from the valley of Aritzo, emerging solitary from the forest that grows luxuriantly in the area.
From an archaeological point of view, the area has returned evidence from the Neolithic, Nuragic and Roman periods. Of particular interest was the discovery of nuragic artifacts including a navicella.
SCI area is a nature oasis where there are hiking trails and a small equipped area. By regional law No. 31 of June 7, 1989, the Texile heel was recognized as a natural monument.
Around the Texile myths and legends have been created over time: one of these features St. Efisio, who came to the Texile to preach the word of God to the people of Barbagia.
