Known as Casa Ofelia from the name of its last owner, Ofelia Marras, it was built in 1901. Casa Ofelia is classifiable among the traditional houses built of unfired earth bricks commonly called “ladiri,” which characterize the rural architecture of the Campidano towns. Purchased in the mid-1990s by the municipality, it was renovated with the intention of making it a cultural center of excellence, as indeed it has been. Currently, Casa Ofelia is the site of exhibitions and events of various kinds and the hub of the city’s cultural life.
The exhibition inside Casa Ofelia proposes a historical-chronological journey in the traditional clothing in use within the folk group “I Nuraghi”: from the costume in use at the time of its founding (1965) to the present day in which, after a careful study of various documentary sources, the different variants of clothing used by our Sestesi ancestors from the first half of the 1800s to the early 1900s are presented again, flanked by period photos and ancient garments.
